Professional Organizations

Citizens for Midwifery
Citizens for Midwifery is a non-profit, volunteer, grassroots organization. Founded by several mothers in 1996, it is the only national consumer-based group promoting the Midwives Model of Care.

The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services
Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS) is a collaborative effort of numerous individuals and organizations. Their mission is to promote a wellness model of maternity care that will improve birth outcomes and substantially reduce costs. They have created the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative and developed guidelines for designated sites as such.

Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery
FAM aims to improve the health status of women, babies and families by increasing awareness of and access to the midwifery model of care. This mission is accomplished through the funding of education, research and public policy initiatives.

Midwives Alliance of North America
The mission of MANA is to provide a nurturing forum for support and cooperation among midwives. Through our collective strength, we can ensure midwifery care for all mothers and their babies throughout North America.

North American Registry of Midwives
The North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) is an international certification agency whose mission is to establish and administer certification for the credential "Certified Professional Midwife" (CPM).

NACPM aims to empower and care for women as they make choices about their pregnancies and births, through the development and growth of the profession of midwifery as practiced by Certified Professional Midwives


Midwifery Education

Birthwise Midwifery School
Birthwise Midwifery School is a three-year direct-entry midwifery education program, which is located in southwestern Maine. The school was founded in 1994 and has been accredited by the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council since 1999.

Midwifery Education Accreditation Council
The Midwifery Education Accreditation Council’s mission is to promote quality education in midwifery through accreditation. It creates standards and criteria for the education of midwives that reflect the nationally recognized core competencies and guiding principles of midwifery care set by the Midwives Alliance of North America.

Seattle Midwifery School
Seattle Midwifery School has been educating childbirth professionals for more than 30 years. Our well-known, rigorous midwifery training program, founded in 1978, is the oldest direct-entry midwifery program in the country.

Centers for Disease Control - National Immunization Program
The CDC site has the most recent immunization schedule, details about each vaccine and illness, state requirements, and a link for reporting vaccine injuries.

Food and Drug Administration
The FDA oversees testing and approval of all drugs in the U.S. including vaccines. This site has information about each vaccine and about Thimerosol, a mercury based preservative used in many vaccines.
