Midwifery in Vermont
In Vermont, naturopaths, certified nurse midwives and licensed midwives do home deliveries. Those that do, are considered independent practitioners. They develop relationships with physicians to consult with and refer clients to. In order to become licensed in Vermont a midwife must first become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). This is a national certification process conducted by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM), which includes a written and skills exam. All home birth providers are required to keep current certification in CPR and neonatal resuscitation as well as continuing education.
